Litter-Robot Congratulates MONICA WOOD – Winner of the Earth Day Contest/Give-away
Celebrate Earth Day 2010 and enter to win a FREE ECO Unit Litter-RobotTM made from 100% recycled plastics!
Earth Day was founded in 1970 by Gaylord Nelson (1916-2005), a U.S. Senator from Wisconsin. At the time (and of course, still today) there was growing concern about population growth and its effect on the environment and April 22nd was chosen as the day to celebrate the Earth and the environment.
Here at Automated Pet Care Products, Inc., we build our products in Juneau, Wisconsin, USA (county seat of Dodge county). Building and buying locally helps to reduce carbon emissions from costly transportation from overseas – not to mention keeping jobs here in the USA. Using recycled materials and designing products for longevity and repair are also big steps toward reducing environmental impact.
To celebrate Earth Day we are giving away a FREE ECO Unit Litter-RobotTM. Simply write a paragraph or two (by commenting on this article) on how you and your pet are trying to reduce environmental impact. Or, if you have any tips or advice on how to be more ‘green’ with your pet, that would be great too.
The winner will be randomly selected from all the comments. Only pertinent comments will be considered for the drawing. Make sure to use a valid email address so we can contact you. Deadline for all comments will be June 1, 2010. The winner will be announced on this blog (www.litter-robot.com/blog) by June 8, 2010.
You can leave a comment or trackback from your own site.

I switched to an all natural biodegradable litter and cleaning products for my 5 cats, and I use bags that break down in the trash forthe waste from my cats and dog! Every little bit helps.

We love our litter robots. It really helps us to use much less litter. All the kitties give it a big paws up! And I, the owner, am thrilled to only have to change the bag once every 7-10 days! And no smell!!!

I adopted 3 rescue cats, and if we had to use regular litter boxes and litter, we would go through so much litter! I have maine coon mix kitties, so they are big! My husband is not as much a kitty lover and the first few weeks before my litter robot got here, he was not happy with the smell. Even frequent scoopings still left a smelly area. With the litter robot, it really is so nice. Also with a busy life, I do not have to spend the time to scoop twice a day! Thank you for such a great product. Also the customer service. I was having an issue, contacted customer service and got the assistance I needed to get things working correctly

I bought my Litter Robot while pregant with my son since I was worried about cat litter and being pregnant. My 11 year old cat took to it right away. Now my 4 year old and I work to find ways to help make the earth a better place by reducing our waste and recycling. We adopted our two kittens from the pound and use all natural cleaning products. We’d love a new expanded globe Robot as our 2nd kitten is not a little kitten but somehow an 18 pound GIANT. Thank you!

We love our Litter-Robot!! It’s made life so much easier than when we had the rake system. Patsy & Eddie, the AbFab pussies, love their new setup and it’s made life so much easier for all of us. I did a lot of research before buying a new litter box and feel very confident in my choice and I was grateful to see the ECO unit choice. I work in Energy Efficiency and see the need for environmental protection every day. Litter-Robot – you rock!!

Until now this has been a great product. We use a lot less litter than in the past.

After losing a cat to cancer we changed the way we did almost everything. We are much more aware of the foods we feed the pets. At one time we had four chinchillas, four cats and two dogs. We are green with cleaning supplies, cat litter, and natural with the food they eat. Not sure that I will really be able to do it but…. so far the litter robot has been going off like clock work every morning at 5:45 am. Perhaps I can unplug the alarm clock and save some electricity!!! We love our litter robot and I would love to win one to give to my sister!

I am dangerously close to becoming the pathological cat woman, I fear. We had dogs for years. When our last one died, a cat followed us home. We named him Magic because he taught us to love cats. Now we have Magic + Fruitopia + Cassy + Jupiter + Meeko. Only Magic is an outside kitty. Litter Robot is wonderful! When we have any difficulties (only one time actually), the customer service was unlike any we have experienced. Our house is cleaner, cats are healthier, and our environment is better overall. Thanks a million!

Recycling and using biodegradable, organic, earth friendly products are important to me. I even have a worm compost bin that I put my kitchen scraps in. I use worlds best kitty litter, but currently use a standard litter box. I try to protect the environment as much as I can.
Would like to get the eco litter robot to be able to use a product that is earth friendly and would help me save on kitty litter but my husband was laid off his job so I won’t be able to get one.

My four lovely ecologically minded felines help the earth by contributing the raw materials for some of their toys. After a good brushing, gather the pile of fur in your palm and roll the fur into a felted ball. This alone is a great toy, but you can take it further by poking a hole in the ball, then take a string with a knot in the end and thread it through the ball. Make another knot on the other side of the ball and you have a mouse! They also love their plastic grocery bag toys. Roll the bag up from the bottom, then tie the handles around the rolled bag. Try putting some catnip in these homemade toys!

This litter box is fantastic. Greatest invention ever. I have two cats and they have never failed to use it. What a relief not to handle litter. I use biodegradable litter and bags. Buying the lip and fence extender for the front was a great buy. No more litter on the floor to clean up after the cats leave the box. We have a Siamese that likes to throw litter around and play. I suggest that all the units be manufactured with the combo as a unit. Oh yes. No more smell in the living room. Guests don’t even know it is there. (or they don’t recognize it as a litter box) Wonderful product and if this one quits, you can be sure that I will buy another one.

I’m very conscious of the environmental impact of pet ownership. I invested in a doggie dooley system to help dispose of dog waste and absolutely love it. Cleaning up after my kitty friends has been more difficult. I tried flush-able litter, but it was really gross and clogged my toilet. I’m currently using a litter that claims to be bio degradable. I think that the automatic litter boxes are great because they keep the litter cleaner and helps it last longer, saving the environment and money!

I try to be greener by combining two types of litter to stretch how much I use and I use natural litter (not clay) to give my cats a healthier environment as well as myself. I think clay litter causes health problems for both cats and humans, so I gave it up as soon as other types became available.

I’m a single mother of 3 boys and a daughter with a daughter of her own and they all live with me right now! I work full time and I have absolutly no time to be cleaning out a litter box every day and I refuse to live in a house that smells like cat box!! I live in the mountains so outside cats don’t last long. I now am able to have an indoor kitty, who is one of my best friends, by the name of Gemini only because the Litter Robot gives me the luxury of not having to clean a box all the time and NO smell!!
I love the fact that you can choose to use biodegradable products. I choose to recycle and use echo friendly products and the mess is less! I live in a beautiful place. I plan on buying a new home and going all green and doing my part to keep things as green as possible.

Our family lives in a deep forest setting that comes with the accoutrement of naturally occurring rodents, which on frequent occasion enjoy leaving their outdoor habitat to invade our home.
We had considered resorting to traps and other chemical pest and rodenticides as I would not entertain the idea of multiple cats in the house without a more responsible litter patrol. The Litter-Robot has allowed us to have three wonderful rodent attack cats by providing an extremely low litter maintenance system.
The results have been a rodent free home and yard without the use have environmentally harmful chemicals and some absolutely wonderful pets that we enjoy tremendously.
Thanks Litter-Robot!

I absolutely love my litter robot! I would be a spokes person if I could, actually I tell people about it all the time. Usually it’s in the pet store where the topic is so readily accessible. I have sent many people walking out of the pet store and dropping that wrongly popular “rake box” on their way out. I often travel out of town for a week at a time. Litter Robot handles both cats with ease. Thanks for a product that does its job above and beyond expectation,

We’ve been using the corn litter in our Litter Robot1 to be eco-friendly and my 2 cats took to it right away. I keep my litter robot in the living room and guests always see it as a conversation piece! My only problem is that our little dog also sees the corn litter as his snack and keeps poking his nose in, only to be covered in corn litter! Guess it is biodegradable and edible!

I do kitten, cat & feral cat rescue so my home is very busy. When the season is upon me I use to clean 2-3 times a day 7-10 large litter boxes which you can imagine is very time consuming. My Litter Robots have been a blessing freeing up my time to socialize, bottle feed litters or enjoy my friends.
My house is clean without odors unlike many cat caregivers in my position. Plus, your Customer Service is excellent whenever I’ve needed them. Thank you Litter Robot!

If anyone is hemming and hawing over whether to spend the bucks on one of these litterboxes I have only one question – “Do you like to scoop litter?” If you’re answer is “yes”, then so be it. If you’re answer is “heck, no!”, then hesitate no more. I purchased one of these boxes and loved it, but by the time our kitty population grew to five and I had a line at the box, I broke down and bought a second unit. Best purchase I ever made for cat paraphenalia. Besides the fact all the upgrades now meant an even better robot – there’s no more line at the litter box. I do also recommend the litter that is sold by litter robot and can say it is superior to most others on the market. I also love the fact the robot can be replaced in parts if something should fail so you don’t need a whole new unit. Life is much simpler now – every other day I change the bags in the drawers, add a scoop of litter, then periodically give a wipe with disinfecting cloths. And for an environmental boost – if we are having problems with burrowing animals outside (we live in the woods), we sprinkle some of the ‘spent’ litter at the groundhog holes or at the perimeter in lieu of pesticides. Works like a charm and since it’s all natural, there’s no harm to the environment.

With 4 cats an automatic box is a must. I have used Litter Maids for years and gone through plenty via warranty replacement. The last two died earlier this year and I found the Litter Robot (thank goodness). Just by purchasing the Eco unit we have already helped the environment. No more trashing the broken Litter Maids. We no longer have to use the large plastic liners that cause so much trash themselves. And can recycle grocery bags to use in the Robot. We recycle anything we can and walk the dogs to the park (instead of drive). We purchase all food and supplies in bulk to reduce waste. The Robot is a lifesaver and eco saver, I just wish I would have found it years ago.

We are absolutely an environmentally conscious house! We drive a hybrid auto, use an electric lawnmower, recycle as much as our trash company allows, participate in Freecycle, reuse and shop thrift stores, compost, turn in used batteries for recycling as well as using rechargeables, use an electric weed trimmer, use an electric hedge trimmer, don’t waste food or use excess energy, and love saving kitty litter by using the Litter Robot with our three fur babies. Let’s save the earth for future generations!

Would love another Litter Robot (we call it the Kenny – a la South Park) for our 3 orphan kitties – whose lost their Mom at about 2 months old. They spend lots of time in our garage (we already have 2 full time indoor boys upstairs) and scooping for 3 is getting old very fast. The kenny definitely saves LOTS of litter in the landfill and bags from the store fit great, so that’s recycling, too. All the kitty food cans, bags, boxes, etc. go to curbside recycling and all cat toys get repaired and are used until they’re bald of fur-only tossed if they’re hazardous! My fingers are crossed!

We are actually in the process of switching over to a wood based litter. Instead of buying lots of pricy toys we have found that while our one cat will only play with the fuzzy little mice, the other cat prefers stuff normally thrown out – straws, empty toilet paper/ paper towel rolls, the plastic from around a milk jug, boxes etc

When I tell people about my litter robot they look at me like I am crazy! But once they see it and understand how much easier it makes my life and how much my cats like it, they understand the power of the litter robot! Thank you for a great product. I have been using less litter, which not only helps my pocketbook, but the environment as well. I also re-use plastic grocery store bags.

We’ve used pine pellet litter for years and loved it. ^_^ I know we’ll have to switch litters if we get a litter-robot, but we’ll be sure to get another natural litter product. It just makes more sense!

With three rescue cats in our house, we could be generating a lot of litter. Instead, we scoop and bury (in a designated spot in our yard) regularly. That way, we really only have to change the litter every 2-3 weeks. We also extend our litter by using shredded newspapers. We find that by using the paper to extend the litter, it actually helps the “scoopings” decompose more quickly. (I think this is because it prevents the litter from clumping up, letting air get in and speed up the rot.)

The Litter-Robot is a life-saver whether you have one or multiple cats. It uses less litter than other automated systems, smells good and is just plain cool to watch operate! I’ve switched to the corn litter over time and it’s working great; it gets composted for non-food garden use. My four cats (three rescue) have been using it for several years now; one practically lives in it, one uses it when no one else is around, one sometimes forgets to turn around and oops! and one is a Bengal who is almost too long for it; the extended dome would sure help out :~) Thanks to the folks at Litter-Robot for providing an eco-friendly product that actually works and great customer support and service!

I’ve been researching the Litter-Robot, and am crossing my fingers I can get one soon.
I fully intend to have a gathering for all my cat-loving friends to admire it.

We are the proud owners of five rescued cats and one amazing Litter Robot. We tried many different “automatic” litter boxes before coming across the Litter Robot. The “other” litter box designs were not complete failures, but they each had their own issues that did not fully address the inherent, unpleasent side shall we say, of owning cats. The Litter Robot has revolutionized the automatic litter box concept. It’s simple yet very effective method of operation is one that should provide a long service life making the initial purchase price one of the best “investments” any cat owner can make. With the added benefit of less litter waste, we and our five cats are trying to do our part to not cover our planet in cat litter (at least not any faster than necessary:) )

I am happy to say I am owner by my 5 rescue cats and 2 Collies. We all try to be “green” and also save money (which is hard to do these days). When my oldest cat started having chronic Urinary Infections we were advised to check into different litters. That started us on the road to a “better litter box” so to speak. We tried several different kinds and finally settled on an all natural litter made from corn. This means we are using a product from a natural source and will also decompose better after the fact. I also got the idea to shred old papers and mix it in. We also do this at our local animal shelter. It recycles paper and also saves money by extending the life of the litter. As you know paper also will decompose better. Also we recycle the grocery bags as trash bags but we don’t get to many anymore since we now take our reusable bags to the store.
Recently we all took part in helping send our hair to the gulf coast to help stuff booms for the oil spill. Between myself, 2 collies and 5 cats we were able to send quite a lot. There is also a company that makes the hair into mats that can absorb the oil too. The animals enjoy being brushed and know they are helping the wildlife too. Another thing we do with the pet hair is use it for our local sanctuary to help make bedding and nests for injured animals. It sounds weird but it is more natural and soft. Little birds like to weave it in nests, bunnies like to burrow in it (Hamsters too) and it can be used as stuffing for pillows. Of course we old use clean hair!
The cats enjoy homemade toys too. I find they love cardboard boxes. We let them use the boxes as houses and play in them too. I also stacked several boxes together and taped them on the sides. Cut holes throughout them in random spots and it made a nice kitty playhouse. They love to climb through them and chase each other. We used toilet paper rolls filled with catnip too. Just get some fabric pieces (you can use small scraps) and put them over the end. You can glue the ends down or secure with a rubber band. The cats love it…they roll it all over the house. By the way, we grow our own catnip.
There is much more we do but the important thing is every little bit helps. I believe everyone can and should try to reuse, recycle and save what they can. Pets included.

One Earth:
She is twice as old now as she was on Earth Day 1970.
When she taught 5th graders respect and love for our great land of plenty.
She knew then what she knows still: protect, and keep the “green”,
Educate, don’t irritate, and above all, keep it clean!
Her rescued cats have more than filled her loving, dear old heart.
And she proclaims her Litter-Robot to be the product “SMART”!
Her kitties too, would have you know, their efforts keeping green,
They hop right in and hop right out, any waste is seldom seen!
A discarded cat door with sagging gasket was recycled and resealed.
When they saw their special entrance, they all purred and squealed!
Placed between the sliding doors to the Teacher’s patio,
This simple step saves A/C and heat, and our Teacher from the “heave-ho”.
And so I would submit to you, our Teacher knows the worth,
Preserve, conserve, recycle, repair…we only have One Earth!

my husband is active duty military, and in march of this year, he was deployed to afghanistan. we were given 7 days notice before he had to leave for approximately 8 months. now, i know that these deployments come with his job, but he is such a wonderful husband that he would “scoop the poop” even though our two cats are more mine, than his. pretty quickly after he left my two young daughters and i just couldn’t take the icky of it anymore, and i luckily found the litter robot website. i have been eyeing them ever since! i love the idea that they are more eco-friendly! our family has lived all over the world with the miltary, and we had become recycle gurus! living in europe and asia, we had learned to seperate every last article of trash, and when we moved to north dakota, we were horrified by the lack of recycling here. i am lucky enough to work with an enviromentally friendly community theatre where we collectively bring in all our cans and cardboard to haul to the recycling center. and it’s theatre! we recycle anything and everything all the time for the stage, mostly for cost purposes- but i do love the rush of turning trash into treasure! i would love to add a litter robot to my earth friendly check list.

Thank you for your great job with this site. There is a very interesting information in this article. As always though.
