Litter-Robot Congratulates MONICA WOOD – Winner of the Earth Day Contest/Give-away
Celebrate Earth Day 2010 and enter to win a FREE ECO Unit Litter-RobotTM made from 100% recycled plastics!
Earth Day was founded in 1970 by Gaylord Nelson (1916-2005), a U.S. Senator from Wisconsin. At the time (and of course, still today) there was growing concern about population growth and its effect on the environment and April 22nd was chosen as the day to celebrate the Earth and the environment.
Here at Automated Pet Care Products, Inc., we build our products in Juneau, Wisconsin, USA (county seat of Dodge county). Building and buying locally helps to reduce carbon emissions from costly transportation from overseas – not to mention keeping jobs here in the USA. Using recycled materials and designing products for longevity and repair are also big steps toward reducing environmental impact.
To celebrate Earth Day we are giving away a FREE ECO Unit Litter-RobotTM. Simply write a paragraph or two (by commenting on this article) on how you and your pet are trying to reduce environmental impact. Or, if you have any tips or advice on how to be more ‘green’ with your pet, that would be great too.
The winner will be randomly selected from all the comments. Only pertinent comments will be considered for the drawing. Make sure to use a valid email address so we can contact you. Deadline for all comments will be June 1, 2010. The winner will be announced on this blog (www.litter-robot.com/blog) by June 8, 2010.
You can leave a comment or trackback from your own site.

Dagny & Kadina, my two kitty-girls, are very ladylike. They like a clean litterbox and house. They make sure I know this because they turn up their noses at clay litters and chase any thing left lying around all over the place, unwinding spools of thread in their attempts to “clean up”. Since they are so particular, we use corn-based litter, and non-toxic cleansers throughout our household and on our bodies. They make sure they clean us too (licking our skin) so it is important that all of our lotions and soaps are non-toxic as well. The eco-unit litter robot would be a perfect addition to our household, especially as we prepare for a new addition and I am supposed to stay away from kitty litter (pregnancy and kitty litter are a no-no).

One of the ways my kitties and I create less waste is to use rabbit pellets (compressed alfalfa) in place of regular cat litter. The pellets are great at neutralizing odors and can be easily composted. They also come in a paper bag, which can also be totally composted, so there’s almost no waste. If we won the Litter Robot we’d have to figure out a new type of eco-friendly litter because the pellets don’t clump, but I think we’d be up to the challenge!

We love our litter robots! Here at Pendraig Siberian Cats we do everything as green as possible. We use natural diets, natural cat litters in our Litter Robots which help us save litter and waste. Ordinary litter boxes use up much more litter but because the Litter Robot scoops continuously it keeps the waste to a minimum and the house smelling great.
I love that natural clumping litters work in this box also and that we do not have to use clay clumping litters which are bad for our kitties and bad for the environment.
We use natural, non-toxic and biodegradable disinfectants to clean everything including the litter boxes.
And we feed a natural diet with quality, balanced raw food from grassfed/pastured animals.
Go green with your pets! You will love the added benefits to your own life and to their health.

since i purchased the litter robot i have switched to the world’s best litter, it is made from 100% corn and my cats have adjusted to it with no problem. it is our way of helping the environment by using a litter that is better for the world around us. i have also been using this litter in the regular litter box that i still use (just in case the power goes out) and have found that not only is it just as good as regular litter, there is actually less odor from this litter in both the litter-robot as well as the box. However, the box, as great as it is, is well loved by my cats and it almost always seems that after dinner there is a line of kitties waiting for their turn. having a second litter-robot would help alleviate the waiting time for all the other kitties because as we all know, restrooms are first come, first served. so our contribution to the environment has been to reduce our contribution of less environmentally friendly litter with a litter that is very biodegradeable and as easy, if not easier to use than old style clumping litter – not to mention there is no dust associated with this litter. My Bengals would want no other automatic than the LITTER-ROBOT – perhaps the greatest invention for cat owners since the microchip was introduced. In addition we have reusable bags for grocery shopping as well as any other time we need a bag when we are out and about. We keep a stockpile in the car as we never know when we will need just one or ten. We haven’t used any plastic or paper bags from any stores for a number of years now. Now we are getting ready when we place our next order for supplies for the litter-robot to try out the new biodegradable bags that have just been introduced. way to go, once again, litter-robot – a cat’s best friend. Thanks so much.

I use all organic food for my two kitties, who i recently adopted from a shelter. Also, we have purchased sustainable bamboo window ledges for them & they love them!

We all love our Litter-Robot! It is the best. I feel like out kitties have the most healty way to go potty! We are babysitting our daughters cat for a couple of months and it is handling 3 cats just fine! Love it! Thanks!

We buy all-natural, non-toxic cat litter for our three cats and the occasional rescue kitten that we foster. We’re also committed to purchasing organic and holistic food thus reducing our imprint by supporting more environmentally-sound food production practices. And, of course, we’ve been rocking a Litter Robot for the past two years which vastly reduces the amount of litter we dispose when cleaning after our cats.
Wednesday, 21 April, 2010 at 3:27
I buy low dust litter in paper bags instead of plastic pails & make homemade cleaner out of vinegar & water in a reusable spray bottle to clean the Litter Robot.
Better for us, our cats, the enviroment and our wallets!

One of the easiest things to do to help the environment is buying biodegradable litter. Poop is not going to degrade when surrounded by some plastic man-made concoction and it can’t be that good for kitty’s booty anyways. Other things we try to do is buy cat toys that are durable (made of wood, not plastic, etc) so that we have to purchase less goods over time. We also purchase organic treats for our cat.
Wednesday, 21 April, 2010 at 8:17
I love the litter robot. It is so nice not to have to scoop poop. My cat also doesn’t cover his poop so it is wonderful not to smell it because it goes through a cycle shortly after he leaves.
Wednesday, 21 April, 2010 at 8:31
I believe in user friendly bags like grocery and shopping bags and have used them every time even through our supermarket recycles plastic bags – which is great. The reusable bags are much better and a lot stronger and I take all my pop cans to get cash out of them so that we can help our planet stay clean.
Wednesday, 21 April, 2010 at 8:37
I went with the litter robot because of the reduced amount of litter that I would be using (or at least, HOPED I would be using). I was AMAZED at just how much less I really did use: fully half as much as I did with my old “automatic” litter box! I do also use biodegradable plastic bags for my liners. Not sure my cats are doing much to help the environment that they know about, but I don’t think they could live without their Litter Robot, either!
Wednesday, 21 April, 2010 at 8:53
The Litter Robot has helped us by reducing the amount of litter used. We have 8 cats and that’s a lot of litter. We buy in bulk. Use filtered tap water and refillable aluminum bottles. Use non-toxic household cleaners and recycle. Happy Earth Day!
Wednesday, 21 April, 2010 at 9:16
I love the concept of the Litter Robot! It is great and does reduce waste of litter. I try to always recycle the cardboard boxes the litter comes in to make the world a litter greener. My kitties keep me warm on those chilly evenings so I don’t need to turn up the heat and use any more energy. My furry friends are “my little warming blankets”.

Living in New York City, we are faced with environmental concerns around every corner. We try to go green with every product choice, such as leaving our two cats’ groomed fur in net bags outside our building during nest building season and Litter-Robot has been a big help in the eco-effort. We’re on our second Litter-Robot unit and our first one was used for parts – one of the parts (the ball) was re-purposed as the base of a water feature in a Pennsylvania garden!
Wednesday, 21 April, 2010 at 9:36
Our Litter Robot has helped us go green! I bought it 2 years ago and we have cut our use of kitty litter by 2/3 since then. Since kitty litter was one of our biggest waste sources (we recycle and compost), this reduction has made a tremendous impact on the amount of waste we throw out. I also love that it works with any clumping litter, so I can use greener litters that break down more easily. Oh, and my cats love it too!
Wednesday, 21 April, 2010 at 9:37
I bought an original Litter Robot in 2005. This was the 5th electric cat litter box I owned, trying the cheaper models first. I wanted it so badly that my daughter actually brought it on the plane from California to Cancun where I was living at the time so is has gone from you to California, to Cancun, and on the ship and truck last year back to South Dakota. Your new robots look wonderful, but mine is still going strong with not one problem. Thank you SO much for the absolutely BEST litter box ever invented. It is truly worth the money.

Along with my own 3 rescued dogs and 5 rescued cats, I also foster homeless pets (along with other members of our rescue group), rehab them and find them forever homes. Especially in these economic times, pets are being given up at an even more alarming rate than I have seen in 10 years of pet rescue. I feel I am doing my part in helping the earth by taking in these deserving pets that have found themselves homeless by no fault of their own (many of whom need substantial veterinary care). I encourage others considering getting a dog or cat to please check with your local shelter or rescue group-recycle a pet today!

Believe it or not I have 8 kitties that use one Litter Robot and like others mentioned it has reduced the amount of cat litter that I use drastically. I have another litter box, which is a manual version of the Litter Robot, which does work, but uses much more litter and is much harder to clean. I’d love to replace this box with the eco-version of the Litter Robot. Thanks!
Wednesday, 21 April, 2010 at 11:04
To be more eco friendly my cats and I only use environmentally friendly cleaning products and recycle everything we can. I really like that Litter-Robot as a company is stepping up to do more for out planet by creating eco-friendly products. Good job!

I have three Cats, two short hair Tortes (8-lbs)each and one Main Coon which weights 15-lbs. Prior to purchasing my “Litter Robot” in April of 2009, all three cats were sharing a community litter box.
I was utilizing “two” 1-gallion pals of cat litter every 8-day before changing out the litter. Since purchasing/utilizing my Litter Robot, I have reduced the amount of litter usage by half, now utilizing only “1-gallion” of cat litter per 8 days.
My Cats and I ” LOVE OUR LITTER ROBOT ” and highly recommend its use to anyone.

Thank you for a great product. We have 2 cats in the house and we live in the country. Your product is very eco friendly, people friendly, and cat friendly. We have been using biodegradable bags and cleaning the “cat box” litter robot has been quick and easy. We are using a lot less litter which is saving us money and we have been composting the used material which is saving the environment. Using a damp cloth to clean the outside of the litter robot is great and we have used rubber mat in front of the entrance has kept the floor clean. Even our cats are entertained watching there cat box move and I am sure that it has also created a cleaner environment for both us and them, by not tracking waste around the house because their litter is always clean. Thanks again for the great product and the assurance that it is made in the USA.

Our kitty came to us in a ‘green’ way, adoption. We also had him fixed, therefore preventing further unwanted kitties. And, although our Litter Robot has eliminated any trace of kitty smell we have started using the Worlds Best Cat Litter. Only fitting it be used with the world’s best litter box, right? We feel better about using it because it’s made from all-natural ingredients and is 100% biodegradable. Wouldn’t have believed corn to be so wonderful, but it IS! All of our cleaning products are environmentally friendly. We do paper instead of plastic at the grocery and then use the paper bags for our kitty “Jinx” to play in. He loves them! And winning the Eco Unit Litter Robot would give us an excuse to adopt a friend for “Jinx” or to donate our other one to our Vet for his office kitty “Pencil”.
Wednesday, 21 April, 2010 at 11:45
Pete and Gus (and I), LOVE their Litter Robot–the only thing better would be the ECO Unit! We use biodegradable clumping corn litter and biodegradable bags in the drawer. We have switched to non-toxic, natural cleaning products not only for the robot but for the entire apartment. We use a Rabbit Air Purifier for indoor air quality and we have installed a water filter in the kitchen rather than purchase purified water in plastic containers. We use organic potting soil and seeds to keep a pot of wheat grass growing for healthy kitty nibbling, and we avoid using plastic dishes and containers to the extent possible. And, for fun, the boys enjoy organic catnip toys.

First off, I bought the really thin, cheap, bags at my local warehouse store. 1000 bags for one low price type of thing. This is about 9.5 years worth of changes for the Litter robot changing bags twice a week.
After we got a new kitten, and it was big enough to start using the Litter Robot, it was like a game for the cat to get me to play with it and a ball, and slowly work it’s way to the room with the Litter Robot in it. As soon as it could see that I was in sight of the Litter Robot, the kitten would run into the box to do his job, usually purring and proud, and I would always give him attention as soon as he was done. For a long time, anytime I was home he would try to get me to his room to watch him use the Litter Robot. I guess he like the praise I always gave him when he first started to use the Litter Robot.
Now after some time, everytime he hears the Litter Robot start running, if from him or the other cat, he runs down and watches the inside to see what is happening.

There are three cats in this house, and the Litter Robot is so far and away the favorite that there are occasional spats over who gets to use it next. Our cats are practicing earth day by all using the litter robot with corn (world’s best) litter, reducing the amount of waste generated and keeping the planet just a little bit cleaner.

Living in Berkeley, we practically live on the cutting edge of “green.” We do several things to reduce waste with our older robot and two cats Nacho and Cheeto. we never use a new kitchen trash bag for our trash, we move the one that was previously used for recycling into the next weeks trash bin, or we use it in the waste tray of the robot. We also don’t empty the waste tray weekly, but usually make it about 10 days (with the two cats). So instead off 4 bags a month, we can use 3. We also grow our own grass for the cats instead of buying it at the pet store, therefore reducing the amount of those plastic containers that are purchased. We also use a broom to sweep up around the food tray and the fur balls along the stairs instead of wasting energy on the vacuum. All these things are not a huge impact, but they are “our” impact. And if everyone makes some impact, it will be seen and felt. Lets make it happen.

Hi there,
One of the ways to make your pet more healthy and also a way to ease up on the cleaning process is to simply feed your cats a top quality food which lessens the amount of stools for they don’t have to eat as much in order to get the balance they need,so research top foods which are mostly not available in grocery stores. The other thing that helps with keeping green is to use of course bio degradable liners, along with that if you reside in a rural area you might want to consider burying the poop(not the bag).I think that most waste systems get rid of any diseases and bacteria associated with cat feces so using a biodegradable bag does help however one needs to consider how long the breakdown period is for the type of bag they use. I have heard flushing the poop in the toilet works for some people, but I feel its too hard and can clog up the drains,no perfect answer to this situation have I found yet,but will continue to research it,but owning a littler robot is the first step to making yourself a greener type!!

I love my older unit and would love to have another litter-robot, The litter-robot saves litter and is easy to change the bag, We recycle alot of items such as bottles, cans, paper and more so a recycle unit would be awsome and welcome here, I have a litter-mate and hate it I dont even turn it on as it gets all gumed up and the bag area doesnt work a full day here so it just easer to scoop it.If I win a new litter-robot I would toss the litter-mate to the recycle bin!
Wednesday, 21 April, 2010 at 14:27
We love our ‘Bot but two would make my 3 cats happier. And the Eco Unit being recycled fits right in with our attempts to be more eco-friendly. We use eco-friendly litter and biodegradable bags.

Well you know how it goes – you start out with two daughters and one cat and then somehow – the daughters are gone and there are now 5 cats!? LOL
I was worried, 5 cats is a lot when we work full time and have a very active social calendar. I felt like I was neglecting my duties and I certainly didn’t want to do that and have them start finding “other” places to make their “mark”.
So when we visited a friends and saw her little robot we just HAD to have one!
My husband thought it was a bit pricey at first – but about a week into it – we knew it was the best investment and would be really economical in the long run!
We empty it twice a week – I use the trashbags with the handles and they work great – although now that I see you have the bio-degradable ones – I may have to go even more green and try those!
I can tell our cats love the box – and I feel good knowing that they have a fresh clean place to use.
Our Home spells like a house – not a litter box – which is wonderful – and we don’t have to use all those heavy room air fresheners anymore!~
The purchase was definitely a winner – we wouldn’t be without one ever again!
Thanks! Rebecca

I bought a reconditioned unit when they first came out 10yrs. ago. My cat has since passed away but we adopted a kitten that I found after the 2008 flood that devastated IA-he took to it like nobody’s business and the robot still works like new. It is worth every penny!

We have four cats and only one litter robot. We can’t afford a new one right now, but would love to have a second won to replace the conventional litterboxes that we have on the second floor of our apartment. It would help us to be more “green” because the eco litter robot is more green.
We live in the mountains near Boulder, Colorado…which is known for being a very green town. One of the ways in which we participate in helping out the environment is by bringing our trash and recycling down into town and sorting it ourselves. Some of our neighbors prefer to use trash collection, but this is bad because the wildlife breaks into their trash bags. This becomes threatening to the animals as well as the environment. Whenever we see the trash, we clean it up! Our dog, Simone, often accompanies us outside on these cleanups. The kitties, unfortunately, need to stay inside or else they might get eaten by a bear, a fox, or a mountain lion!

I have a special room called The Pussy Lounge which is accessed from a cat size door in our 1/2 bath and is the space under the stairs. This space was inaccessible until I cut a door from the outside. Inside the fully finished room is a Litter Robot and A Cat Genie. The room is ventilated 24/7 with a Panasonic wall exhaust fan and a motion sensitive florescent light turns on when the cats, or myself enter the room.
A small poster of “Fritz” hangs on the wall.
I would very much like to replace the Cat Genie with another Litter Robot. We adopted a big 21 lb cat named Cozmo, from my brother when he moved to Australia. Sadly he was not interested in the Litter Robot, because he’s was a big boy and couldn’t be bothered to step up & in to it.
The new design of the Litter Robot features a translucent dome inside for bigger cats & Cozmo is now down to 14 lbs. The Cat Genie has always been problematic. Even with being supplied hot water, it still smells awful when it runs and the cats hate the noise it makes. If not for the exhaust fan pumping the stink outside, we would have given up on it long ago. The cat genie uses a lot more electricity then the Litter Robot and it uses water with waste going down the sewer. Even with the use of cat litter, the Litter Robot must be more eco friendly. It is my hope that Cozmo is now ready to switch to the Litter Robot, provided it belongs to him and it has a more friendly entry then my old model which the other 2 cats have known and loved since they were kittens.

We are really excited for the chance to win the ECO Unit Litter-Robot! Our family already recycles and uses reusable bags , so an eco-friendly cat box is the next logical step.
We have 1 boy and 1 girl cat. Both are rescues and fixed (so no kittens go homeless on our account). They appreciate our green shopping bags since they get to play in them when we’re unpacking our groceries.
Another way we’re staying green is our exterminating efforts. Their is no need to use harmful chemicals to kill our bugs since we have little hunters to do the job for us, even while we sleep. Happy Earth Day!
Wednesday, 21 April, 2010 at 20:36
We have one litter robot already and our two 1 year old cats really love it. We love it too, not only because it’s cleaner than a traditional litter box and controls odors better but also because it’s more conservative in it’s use of litter (which is also more environmental).
We also like to use earth-friendly nontoxic cleaners in our household on anything that comes into contact with ourselves or our cats (including cleaning of the cats’ food and water dishes and the litter box.) We try to always remember that they self-groom and anything they walk on or touch may end up in their mouths. For this reason, we take care to only buy cleaning products that are free of harmful chemicals.
Wednesday, 21 April, 2010 at 20:37
Our cats and dogs help with recycling….Our dog Spike loves to bring us empty water bottles from my son’s room so that we can put them in our recycle bin….and our Cat Leo loves to play with milk rings so we don’t have to purchase any additional toys for her. PS…the cats love the litter-robot. We’ve had it for about three years now…love it, love it, love it.

I have found a great way to reduce the use of plastic bags in my litter robot I use a plastic serve and store dish that fits right inside the drawer to catch the used litter instead of a plastic bag. I then have a plastic storage box that has a secure lid that I put an 8 gallon plastic trash bag. Then a couple times a week I pull out the dish an dump it into my plastic storage box which will hold a couple weeks worth of litter. I found that there is no odor and I use less plastic this way. By the way I love my litter robot and have told all my friends it is the best thing I ever purchased. I would like to suggest that you make a removable dish that fits into the drawer. You could also market a storage box, they could all come in the color of the robot. Thanks for such a great machine, my cat loves it.
Thursday, 22 April, 2010 at 9:10
We and our two cats Gizmo and Spike are doing our part to keep the environment a little cleaner by adopting a feral cat. Spooky is always happy to dispose of any left over cat food that our cats do not finish as well as those flavors that they decide are no longer on their favorite food list.
He pays for the food by patrolling our grounds and keeping pests at bay.
Thursday, 22 April, 2010 at 10:12
We recycle our grocery bags when we scoop from our regular littler pans. We use many natural cleaners, good for us and our cats (18 all recycled, as they are all rescued). We recycle cans. We recycle our dryer lint for the birds, they love to use it in their nests. We love our Liter Robots as they cut down on the amount of litter we use. We recycle as much as we can in our toys also. We love to play with paper towel, and toilet tissue rolls, Fill old socks with catnip, we play with bottle caps and we just love old towels and blankets. We make cat scratches’s from old cardboard boxes. There are so many things you can do to help our planet. Main thing is Think! Than do!
Thursday, 22 April, 2010 at 11:16
Just not having to dump the whole thing of litter saves the environment. With the clumping litter and the minimal amount the Litter Robot discards each time makes for less waste of the product.
Thursday, 22 April, 2010 at 11:24
I have 5 cats, which means we go through a lot of waste in our house. To reduce our impact, we reuse plastic shopping backs in the litter robot, and reduce packaging by buying everything in bulk (from food to litter). We love that litter robot helps us reduce the amount of litter we use overall, and our cats love it as well! Thank you for developing this great machine!
Thursday, 22 April, 2010 at 11:33
A great way to foster environmentally friendly pet habits is to help control the number of homeless dogs and cats left to fend for themselves by adopting a pet from your local shelter and by having your pet spayed or neutered. We have 3 wonderful kitties that we adopted at local shelters. What they lack in pedigree, they make up for in bucket fulls of personality and love. When we adopted them, we had a traditional litter box that consumed buckets of litter each month. Thank goodness we found Litter Robot. With the reduction in the amount of cat litter we now use and the odor control, it has paid for itself in spades. We’d love to give a good home to a new Eco Unit!
Thursday, 22 April, 2010 at 12:15
I’ve “gone green” with my cats’ baths the same way I have with my own showers: I don’t use shampoo anymore. 1 tbsp of baking soda per cup of water for shampoo, and 1 tbsp of vinegar per cup of water for conditioner, works perfectly for me and for the cats. No shampoo bottles to recycle, no detergents on our skin, and nothing harmful going down the drain! (You can google “no-poo method” to find all kinds of detailed advice on switching away from shampoo and conditioner.)

Hi! We have three rescued kitties who absolutely love their litter-robot and love to share it with eachother but an extra eco-friendly robot would bring big smiles to their faces
We use all natural litter and biodegradable bags in our robot to help keep the earth clean! We have also just begun volunteering at our local humane society where I know many kittens and cats are needing homes and fostering. An eco-friendly robot would help tremendously for those additions to our kitty household that may be passing through!
Thank you for an excellent product

We have 3 cats, Marnie is 9 years old, Sasha & Sage are 3 years old. All 3 were adopted from animal shelters, are spayed, and are indoor-only. We think these things are important for protecting the environment and the pet population! The litter robot greatly reduces the amount of cat litter we use since we don’t have to totally empty the cat litter once a week as we would with a regular litter box. Only the dirty/used litter gets thrown away and that is a good thing!
Thursday, 22 April, 2010 at 18:00
With three kitties, even our two litter-bots are not enough. We use World’s Best corn litter in our third open box. When it comes time to scoop, we take the bio-degradeble bag from whichever Litter-bot is fuller, and scoop the waste from the open box into it – avoiding having to use another bag.
We have also committed to feeding our cats more wholesome and organic foods without questionable additives. The cats are healthier and patronizing vendors who make “greener” choices throughout the manufactoring process.
Thursday, 22 April, 2010 at 19:56
We share a home with four cats and two dogs, who live indoors. Each one of the pets were adopted from the local animal shelter spayed or neutered and have a micro chip embedded to help in case they get lost. For the cats, we purchased a eco litter robot and use biodegradable liners with natural litter. We compost the dogs waste which in turn helps keep the grass green and healthy without use of dangerous chemicals. We feed our pets natural and organic foods. We always look for pet toys made from recycled materials. Even the dogs collars and leases are made from hemp. And finally, we purchase green tags to help offset our pets carbon emissions.

My cat Buddy would love to be entered into the sweepstakes to win a litter robot on this Earth Day. I have never seen one of these before what a great product. If Buddy would win this and love it I would share this with all my Cat loving friends. Oh, by the way we adopted Buddy when he was 2 years old from the shelter he is know going on 4 in May. Hope he wins for his Birthday.
Thank You!

Currently I now have two cats, One that is almost 2 and another that is 6 months. I have adopted both the cats from a shelter to prevent them from being put down. I have tried to become more earth friendly by switching from clay to a corn based clumping litter and had no problem. I would love to have a litter robot to better use my litter and to make it last longer. Currently I have been wanting to get one but unable to afford one since I am still in school.
