1. What’s the difference between the step and the handle?
The step is similar to the front of the LR3 and provides assistance for cat to get in unit - also has a ribbed mat to catch litter. The handle is flat to the front and is used to help pull the drawer out. They are interchangeable thanks to the modular design so they can be swapped out in the future. It's really up to personal preference and gives the unit a different look with each design.

  2. I have a giant Maine coon- about 22lbs. He uses a Buddha box now. Will he fit in this?
It can depend on each individual cat and their comfort level but there are many 25+ lb cats that use the Litter-Robot. The spacious entryway is very accommodating.

  3. Does the Litter-Robot 4 come with a small amount of the litter box bags or do they need to be purchased separately?
All units come with 3 waste drawer liners (already located in the waste drawer) to get you started. You can purchase additional liners through our website or you can use any 10-13 gallon size trash bag. Our liners are not required.

  4. How many LR4 per cat do you suggest? I know it says multi cat but just curious…I have three cats at the moment and I just want to make sure one LR4 is enough for them all
We recommend a max of 4 kitties per unit.

  5. My cat won’t go all the way into the robot and turn around to use the litter like her brother. Instead, she walks straight in leaving her behind close to the opening, This in turn causes her to sometimes pee & poop outside the robot even with the fence installed! We love the product but this is proving to be a little frustrating. It works great and I love not scooping. Any suggestions to remedy our situation would be appreciated!
Here are some tips we’ve heard from others who have experienced this issue:

    1. Hang a washer/quarter/similar from a string at the inside opening of the globe. Make sure it is at a level where it will touch your cat's hind end when they enter the globe. This should cause them to turn around inside the globe because most cats do not like their rear ends touched.
    2. Similarly, watch for your cat to enter the globe and then touch their hind-end as they gets inside. This should cause them to turn around inside the globe.
    3. Watch for your cat to enter the globe and then put a treat on the outside ledge to get them to turn around.

With any of these methods, they should get into the habit of turning around after a few times.

I hope one of these does the trick for you!

  6. I have 2 cats that have different litter practices. One, when she pees, she scratches the side of the litter box. Will the inside of the LR endure strong scratching? The other one covers her pee but not her poop. When the globe rotates, will it still be able to sift & drop the poop? I’ve been studying & researching your product for years but the 2questions above prevents me to make a decision. Thank you.
    Thanks for reaching out!

The liner is a made of a strong, durable TPE (thermo-plastic elastomer) so it's made to withstand kitty scratches. However, some kitties can be a bit more aggressive so we do cover the liner and can replace it if needed within warranty. We do also sell replacement globe liners for once you are out of warranty.

For kitty who doesn't bury her poo, that's usually not an issue. The Litter-Robot will lightly coat the waste with litter during a clean cycle. We definitely recommend using a high-quality clay based clumping litter though. Plant-based or lower quality litters tend to not form tight enough clumps so it can lead to smearing.

  7. How quiet is compared to LR 3?
During testing, the LR4 ran about 40-45 decibels. The LR3 is 60-65 decibels. There are some videos on YouTube from our beta testers so you can hear them cycle.

  8. How much capacity (in L) does the waste bin have ?
Hi Stephi! We do not use liters for waste measurement. The Litter-Robot 4 drawer will usually hold between 6-8 lbs or 2.7-3.6 kg of waste.

  9. The manual says the carbon filter should last around one month, would the number of cats / uses change that or is it purely length of time based?
It's usually just based on time and that is just a recommendation. Some customers only change their filters every 6-12 months. It really is a personal preference. If you start to notice increased odors, changing the filter is a good idea. If you aren't noticing any odors, it's not necessary to change out every month.

  10. In our LR3, we have had two pinch detectors corrode on us and stop working, giving us a constant pinch error. Has this sensor been redesigned?
Yes, the pinch and drawer full sensors were redesigned on this model. The pinch is now a microswitch.
