It's natural for some cats to be initially uncertain or wary of new objects in their territory. Litter-Robot 5 is designed to be as cat-friendly as possible, featuring QuietSift® technology that minimizes noise during the cleaning cycle. The cleaning cycle won’t begin until minutes after your cat has exited the automatic litter box, and you can extend the delay up to 30 minutes for skittish cats.

To ease the transition, place Litter-Robot where the old litter box was and, for a short time, keep both nearby. Mixing a cup of used litter into the clean litter in the Litter-Robot helps provide a familiar scent. You can also leave Litter-Robot turned off until your cat has tried it. Litter-Robot 5 is suitable for cats that weigh 1.4–13.6 kg, including extra large breeds like Maine Coons or Norwegian Forest cats, making it the best litter box for large cats. With an entryway width of 40 cm and an interior height of 44.5 cm, almost any domestic cat can fit comfortably inside the globe.

Yes. Kittens that weigh at least 1.4 kg can safely use Litter-Robot 5 in automatic mode. The unit uses multiple lasers and weight sensor technology to detect when your cat enters and exits the globe, which then triggers the countdown timer and cleaning cycle.

For kittens under 1.4 kg, we recommend using your Litter-Robot 5 in "semi-automatic" mode to keep your kitten safe and relieve you from litter box scooping. For "semi-automatic" mode, leave Litter-Robot powered off or unplugged. When you see your kitten has used it, wait about 7 minutes for the waste to clump, then power it on. Litter-Robot will automatically perform a clean cycle. Afterward, power it off again. Continue this supervised, semi-automatic mode until your kittens have reached 1.4 kg to activate the SmartScale®.

Because waste is promptly removed and contained in the base, typical litter box odours will be significantly reduced with Litter-Robot. Litter-Robot 5 features WasteID™ for more targeted odour control (learn more below), a sealed waste drawer, and a Carbon Filter to reduce odours. You can opt to combine the Carbon Filter with OdorTrap Packs to eliminate litter box odours through natural chemistry. We also recommend using an unscented, all-natural litter to help with odour control.

WasteID is an industry-first technology available exclusively on Litter-Robot 5 and Litter-Robot 5 Pro. It distinguishes between urine and feces for targeted odour control. For urine, Litter-Robot waits to cycle so clumps can form properly. For solid waste, it cycles quickly to contain odours right away. WasteID also unlocks advanced routine monitoring in the Whisker app, giving you deeper insights into your cat’s litter box habits. This feature becomes more accurate over time as Litter-Robot learns from your household, typically optimizing after 30 days of regular use.

With Litter-Robot 5, you’ll have access to a 7-day look at your cats’ visits and individual cat weights.

Replace the Waste Drawer Liner whenever you need to empty the waste drawer. How often you empty the waste drawer depends on the number and size of your cats. You may only need to empty the Litter-Robot 5 waste drawer as low as once every 10 days. For optimal odour absorption, we recommend replacing the Carbon Filter and OdorTrap® Packs every 2-4 weeks, but replacement frequency is up to you and your cats' usage patterns.

The best litter for Litter-Robot is clumping clay litter. We recommend a high-quality, standard-weight, clay-based clumping litter. Some silica gel litter beads and crystals can also be used with Litter-Robot, as long as they pass through the screen. However, translucent or white-coloured litter (most often seen in crystal litter) may impact the litter level and Drawer Full Indicator (DFI) accuracy in Litter-Robot 5 and are therefore not recommended. Alternative, plant-based litters typically do not work with Litter-Robot as these may not be filtered properly through the sifting system. Litters that do not work in Litter-Robot are the strictly absorbent, non-clumping or loose-clumping litters, newspaper-based litters, and absorbent wood pellet litter.

Yes, Litter-Robot 5 can be used on any type of flooring.
