Litter-Robot 4: Cat presence sensor installation guide

Learn how to remove and install the Litter-Robot 4 Cat Presence Sensor.

The Litter-Robot is equipped with a motion sensor that monitors the waste drawer. If the motion sensor identifies movement within the waste drawer while at the Home position, the unit will rotate the globe to a position such that the waste port provides egress from the waste drawer.

You will need:

  • Phillips-head screwdriver
  1. Make sure the unit is in the Home/Ready position.

  2. Press the Power button to turn the unit off, then unplug the unit.

  3. Remove the bonnet:
    1. Press and hold the latches on both sides of the bonnet, then lift and rotate the bonnet to its open position.

    2. Lift the bonnet up and out of the hinge to remove.

  4. Remove the globe: Grab the black handle located on top of the globe, lift the globe out of the base, and set it aside.

  5. Locate the cat presence sensor under its protective cover, between the two glide buttons.

  6. Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the single screw, then remove the protective cover.

  7. Carefully lift the circuit board: Gently push up from underneath the board and disconnect the wire connector from the board. Set the old board aside.

  8. Install the new circuit board by connecting the wire connector and gently placing the board in the same position between the two glide buttons.

  9. Reinstall the protective cover using the single screw.

  10. Replace the globe: Hold the globe by the black handle and set it onto the new base. Ensure the back of the globe is sitting flush in the rear bearing pocket: The large black gear on the rear of the globe will line up with the small white gear in the base.

  11. Replace the bonnet:
    1. Place the bonnet into the hinge behind the robot as shown.

    2. Rotate the bonnet downward over the globe and push down on the bonnet from the top to make sure it is latched and secure.

  12. Plug the unit in and power it on.
