Litter-Robot 4: Use and care

Cleaning your Litter-Robot

It's important to do a basic globe cleaning every 1-3 months and a deep cleaning at least every 3 months.

Over time, small clumps can accumulate within the internal pocket of the globe, which can contribute to weight-related errors.

Cleaning or soaking the globe thoroughly every 3 months will help prevent any excess weight from accumulating within the globe.

Never submerge, spray, or soak the base or control panel as they contain sensors and electronics.

Customers with more than one cat may want to perform globe cleanings more frequently.

Waste drawer liners

Litter-Robot comes with a waste drawer liner installed. These liners are specifically designed for the Litter-Robot, but any 8-13 gallon (30-49 L) clear trash bag will work. Please note that waste level readings may be inaccurate when using a dark bag, especially when the drawer is empty. As clumps start to collect in the drawer, the readings will become more accurate.

To install:

  1. Open a new liner or waste drawer bag.
  2. Wrap the edges of the waste drawer liner or bag over the waste drawer flange.

Stretched bags or bags not pressed flat will cause the DFI (drawer full indicator) to inaccurately measure the waste drawer level.

  3. Push the rest of the bag to the bottom of the waste drawer, then slide the waste drawer closed.

Carbon filter

The Litter-Robot is equipped with a flexible carbon filter pad that is installed on the lower exterior of the globe. This filter sits directly above the waste drawer to absorb odors. OdorTrap® packs can also be used in place of a carbon filter.

To install:

  1. Press the Cycle button to start a cleaning cycle
  2. Open the bonnet when the globe is in the Dump position.

  3. Replace the carbon filter if necessary.

Under normal conditions of use, a filter should last approximately 1 month. The charcoal filter is not necessary for the operation of the device.

Brush seal strips

The Litter-Robot is equipped with brush-type seal strips on the top and bottom of the base. These seal strips help contain odors in the waste drawer.

Replace the seal strips when you notice that they are worn flat or peeling off.

Make seal strips last longer by trimming loose edges between replacements. Be careful not to get them wet when cleaning the base or they may start to peel off.

Emptying the litter

  1. Press the Empty button to spin the globe clockwise, which will allow litter to fall through the waste port and into the waste drawer for easy disposal.

  2. If there is waste left in the globe, sweep the granules to the waste port. Press any button to return the globe to the Home position.

IMPORTANT: Supervise and prevent your cat from entering during the emptying cycle, as the device may not detect your cat without a litter box.
