The Litter-Robot 2 motor can be purchased on our website at www.Litter-Robot.com/litter-robot/parts.html. If you believe your Litter-Robot’s motor needs to be replaced, follow the instructions below to complete the installation.
These instructions apply to units that are manufactured any time before November 6, 2009. If your Litter-Robot was manufactured after November 6, 2009, use the following instructions:
LR 2 | Motor Installation- Units After 11/2009
If you are unsure when your Litter-Robot was purchased, please contact Customer Service with the serial number (located on the inside back wall of the base). Motors can be returned within 30 days unopened.
See the instructions below to learn how to replace the motor in your Litter-Robot 2.
Removing the Motor
1. Unplug your Litter-Robot and remove the waste drawer and globe.
2. Use a 5/16 socket to loosen the lower motor mount as shown below.
3. Drill the rivets out with a 1/8-inch drill bit.
4. Free the blue and black wires from clips inside the base as shown below.
5. Lift the top of the base up and flip it upside down, setting gently on top of the lower half of the base.
6. Use the socket to loosen the remaining motor mounts.
Please note: You may have to manually rotate the black drive gear to access the lower motor mount as shown below.
7. Locate and remove the safety line cover by gently lifting up on one side.
8. Use needle-nosed pliers to carefully separate the red and green wires, as well as the white and brown wires.
9. Gently free the white and red wires from the base hook.
10. Remove the motor.
Replacing the Motor
1. Position the new motor into the base as shown. Keep the motor in position while carefully tightening the motor mount into place. Make sure the nut and washer stay together. Be careful not to over-tighten, which can damage the plastic housing.
2. Push the red and white wires back under the plastic hook in the base. Press the red with green wire and white with brown wire snugly together and place back into the safety line cavity, clicking the cover back into place.
(Note: If your motor does not match these specs, please contact Customer Experience for further instructions. Include a description and the serial number of your base.)
3. Make sure the white and red wires are not hanging down out of the base.
4. Next, align the top half of the base back in place and ensure the motor mount is in place and the nut and washer are together.
5. Snap the wires into the clips and tighten the lower motor mount (do not over-tighten).
6. To finish, assemble the base by using any small screw (appox. 1/2-inch) to drill back the two pieces of plastic when you are done. You will need approximately 7 screws to drill the base back together. We recommend purchasing as many as there were holes for rivets. As assemblies have changed over time, we cannot provide an exact quantity.
