FAQ
What is an HSA or FSA?
An HSA (Health Savings Account) and an FSA (Flexible Spending Account) are tax-advantaged accounts that let you set aside pre-tax money for qualified medical expenses — like your Litter-Robot® automatic litter box and select accessories.
Can I use my HSA or FSA to buy Whisker products?
Yes! Select Whisker products are HSA/FSA eligible with a valid Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN). We’ve partnered with Sika Health to make this process seamless.
What is a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN)?
An LMN is a letter from a licensed healthcare provider that states a product is medically necessary to treat or alleviate a specific health condition. It’s what makes “dual-use” products like Litter-Robot and Feeder-Robot eligible for HSA/FSA funds.
Which conditions qualify me for an LMN?
You may qualify if you experience:
• Chronic back pain, arthritis, or joint pain
• Pregnancy or limited mobility
• Blindness or low vision
• Allergies to dust/fragrance
• Respiratory issues (e.g., asthma, COPD)
• Neurological conditions (e.g., Parkinson’s, MS)
• Cognitive impairment
• Mental health conditions (e.g., depression, anxiety)
• Immune suppression (e.g., cancer recovery, transplant)
What products are eligible for HSA/FSA?
Eligible products include:
• Litter-Robot 4, Litter-Robot 5 / 5 Pro, Litter-Robot EVO
• Feeder-Robot
• HSA/FSA Bundles
Look for the HSA/FSA badge on product pages.
How do I get a Letter of Medical Necessity?
Choose Sika Health at checkout. You’ll complete a brief online form sharing your symptoms. A licensed provider will review your case and issue an LMN if eligible — usually within 1–4 hours during business hours, or within 24 hours outside of business hours.
How much does the LMN cost?
Whisker covers the $30 LMN fee, so you pay nothing to get started.
Can I pay directly with my HSA/FSA card?
Yes. When checking out, select HSA/FSA payment and continue with Sika. You’ll be prompted to enter both your HSA/FSA card and another card for any ineligible items in your cart.
What if I don’t have enough funds on my HSA/FSA card?
If your provider supports partial authorization, Sika will apply the remaining balance on your HSA/FSA card and allow you to complete the transaction with a second card. If not, you’ll need to pay with a standard card and submit your receipt and LMN for reimbursement.
Can I submit for reimbursement if I paid with a regular card?
Yes. After you receive your LMN and receipt from Sika, you can file a claim with your HSA/FSA provider by uploading both documents through their portal.
Can I buy Whisker products for someone else using my HSA/FSA?
HSA/FSA funds can only be used for yourself and your eligible dependents under IRS rules. Be sure to confirm the recipient qualifies.
What happens if I’m not approved for an LMN?
If your symptoms don’t meet the requirements, the provider may deny your LMN. In that case, you won’t be able to use HSA/FSA funds, but you can still purchase the product using a different payment method.
How long is my LMN valid?
Approved LMNs are valid for 12 months from the date of issue and cannot be used retroactively for purchases made before approval.
Can I return a product I bought with HSA/FSA funds?
Yes, as long as your return is approved under Whisker’s policy. Refunds must go back to the original HSA/FSA card used for the purchase. If your account is closed, we may not be able to process the return.
What if I need help with my LMN, receipt, or claim?

How do HSA refunds work?
HSA funds never expire, so refunds always process normally. The refunded amount is returned to the customer’s HSA balance and can be reused at any time.
How do FSA refunds work?
FSA funds are tied to a specific plan year and may expire if unused. If a refund is requested before the funds expire, it can typically be returned to the original FSA card without issue. If the refund is requested after the funds have expired, the FSA administrator may block it because the plan year is closed.
What happens if the FSA funds are expired and the refund is blocked?
If the FSA card cannot accept the refund, Sika can issue a physical check. The customer is responsible for depositing the check into their HSA or FSA account, or using it only for eligible medical expenses in accordance with IRS rules. Please reach out to support@sikahealth.com.
