Litter-Robot 4: Calibrating the drawer full indicator

IMPORTANT

  1. Press the Cycle button on your Litter-Robot to ensure there are no dirty clumps in the globe before starting the calibration process.
  2. Make sure your unit is plugged in.
  3. Make sure your unit is connected and online.
  4. Make sure your firmware is up-to-date. If the app does not give you the option to update, you have the latest version.

The Litter-Robot 4 is equipped with OmniSense™ detection that utilizes laser and weight sensor technology to provide real-time litter and waste drawer levels.  Omnisense™ also supports the SafeCat system which continuously analyzes 4 safety zones to ensure your cat is always safe.

There are 3 laser sensors located in the top of the bezel, called curtain sensors, that accurately measure the capacity of the waste drawer.

During each cycle the unit will measure the waste drawer capacity and check if the waste drawer is full.

Once a full waste drawer is detected, the unit will indicate it is full with a flashing blue light bar.

The unit will cycle (2) additional times before it will no longer automatically cycle.

If you have emptied the waste drawer and are still seeing a flashing blue light or you are experiencing inaccurate waste gauge readings within the app, you may need to calibrate your waste drawer level.

Clean the sensors

Debris, such as dust or cat fur, can interfere with the operation of the curtain sensors. This can cause the unit to inaccurately measure the waste drawer level and litter level, as well as cause false cat detects.

Next, clean the bezel area where the sensors are located.

Visit our Laser sensor cleaning instructions to learn how to properly clean your Litter-Robot's curtain sensors.

Update your firmware

Whisker will automatically update the firmware in your Litter-Robot 4 to ensure the best possible operation.

Visit our Firmware update instructions to learn how to update your Litter-Robot's firmware.

If you don’t see the option to update your firmware, you already have the latest version.

Once the update is complete, your Litter-Robot should be ready for use.

Successful: If your Litter-Robot displays a blue light bar, you've been successful.

Unsuccessful: If you are still seeing a flashing blue light or inaccurate waste gauge readings within the app, please continue with calibration.

Calibrate the drawer full indicator

  1. Before starting the calibration process, please confirm in the Whisker App that your Litter-Robot 4 is updated to firmware version 1175.5021.289 or above.
  2. Remove the waste drawer liner and wipe the drawer clean of debris.
  3. Add a piece of plain white paper to the bottom of the drawer. For example, half a sheet of printer paper. The purpose of the white paper is to provide a reflective surface for the drawer full indicator sensor.
The paper must be plain white with no pattern and must lay flat on the bottom of the drawer.
  4. Insert the waste drawer again.
  5. Do not add a waste drawer liner yet.
  6. Next, press the Power button to turn Litter-Robot 4 off. Do not unplug the unit.
  7. Wait at least 5 seconds before beginning the following button press sequence.
  8. Now press the control panel buttons one at a time in this order: 1) CONNECT 2) RESET 3) CONNECT 4) EMPTY 5) CYCLE

Make sure that you press each button within 5 seconds of the previous button press.

If the control panel buttons are incorrectly pressed, the unit will remain off. Wait 5 seconds and repeat the previous step again.

If correctly pressed, the unit will perform a lamp test. That means the LED display will illuminate red, green, and blue lights.

Then it will begin to cycle to the dump position, illuminating a round-robin green light. This will allow the drawer full indicator sensor to see the white paper at the bottom of the drawer when the waste port is positioned over the waste drawer.

During calibration, the LED display will illuminate a solid yellow light with a flashing green light.

You can choose to remove the white piece of paper or, for optimal drawer full indicator accuracy, you can leave the white paper in the bottom of the drawer - always under the drawer liner.

Successful: If the calibration is successful, the LED display will illuminate a solid yellow light with a flashing blue light for 5 seconds. Then the unit will cycle home.

Unsuccessful: If the calibration fails, the LED display will illuminate a solid yellow light with a flashing red light for 5 seconds. Then the unit will cycle home. If this happens, complete the steps in our Litter-Robot 4: Laser sensor cleaning instructions guide, then repeat the calibration process.
