How can I get my cat to use Litter-Robot?
Over 95% of cats acclimate to Litter-Robot*, and most begin using it within a few days to a week. (*Based on stated reasons for customer returns of Litter-Robot 4 and 3 over a one-year period). It's natural for some cats to be initially uncertain or wary of new objects in their territory. Litter-Robot EVO is designed to be as cat-friendly as possible, featuring QuietSift® technology that minimizes noise during the cleaning cycle. The cleaning cycle won’t begin until minutes after your cat has exited the automatic litter box, and you can extend the delay up to 30 minutes for skittish cats.
To ease the transition, place Litter-Robot where the old litter box was and, for a short time, keep both nearby. Mixing a cup of used litter into the clean litter in the Litter-Robot helps provide a familiar scent. You can also leave Litter-Robot turned off until your cat has tried it. With these steps—and a little patience—most cats adapt quickly, especially if they’re already used to a covered litter box. Learn more about acclimating your cat.
Can large cats use Litter-Robot EVO?
Litter-Robot EVO is suitable for cats that weigh 3-19 lbs, including large breeds like Maine Coons. With an entryway width of 14.85” and an interior height of 14.5”, most domestic cats can fit comfortably inside the globe. If you have an especially large or tall cat, consider Litter-Robot 5 or Litter-Robot 4.
Can kittens use Litter-Robot EVO?
Yes. Kittens that weigh at least 3 lbs can safely use Litter-Robot EVO in automatic mode. The unit relies on weight sensors to detect when your cat enters and exits the globe, which then triggers the countdown timer and cleaning cycle.
For kittens under 3 lbs, we recommend using your Litter-Robot EVO in "semi-automatic" mode to keep your kitten safe and relieve you from litter box scooping. For "semi-automatic" mode, leave Litter-Robot powered off or unplugged. When you see your kitten has used it, wait about 7 minutes for the waste to clump, then power it on. Litter-Robot will automatically perform a clean cycle. Afterward, power it off again. Continue this supervised, semi-automatic mode until your kittens have reached 3 lbs to activate the SmartScale®.
What is the difference between Litter-Robot EVO and Litter-Robot 4?
Litter-Robot EVO is a more compact, streamlined version of Litter-Robot 4. It’s ideal for households with one to two cats, offered at a lower price point, and comes with fewer built-in app insights. (You can upgrade to Whisker+ at any time with either model to unlock additional app insights and features and to track individual cat insights.) Litter-Robot 4 is suitable for up to four cats, offers more advanced features such as litter- and waste-level sensing, and can be equipped with premium accessories like LitterHopper.
Will Litter-Robot eliminate all litter box odors?
Because waste is promptly removed and contained in the base, typical litter box odors will be significantly reduced with Litter-Robot. Litter-Robot EVO features a sealed waste drawer and Carbon Filter to reduce odors. You can opt to combine the Carbon Filter with OdorTrap Packs to eliminate litter box odors through natural chemistry. We also recommend using an unscented, all-natural litter like GreatLitter to help with odor control.

This includes daily recap reports and device notifications, and 2 years of weight trends, visit trends, duration trends*, weight-based identification, and historical data. How often do I need to replace the Litter-Robot Waste Drawer Liner, Carbon Filter, or OdorTrap® Packs?
Replace the Waste Drawer Liner whenever you need to empty the waste drawer. How often you empty the waste drawer depends on the number and size of your cats. You may only need to empty the Litter-Robot EVO waste drawer as low as once every 7 days. For optimal odor absorption, we recommend replacing the Carbon Filter and OdorTrap® Packs every 2-4 weeks, but replacement frequency is up to you and your cats' usage patterns.
Does Litter-Robot require special litter?
The best litter for Litter-Robot is clumping clay litter. We recommend a high-quality, standard-weight, clay-based clumping litter, such as GreatLitter. Some silica gel litter beads and crystals can also be used with Litter-Robot, as long as they pass through the screen. However, translucent or white-colored litter (most often seen in crystal litter) may impact the litter level and Drawer Full Indicator (DFI) accuracy in Litter-Robot EVO and are therefore not recommended. Alternative, plant-based litters typically do not work with Litter-Robot as these may not be filtered properly through the sifting system. Litters that do not work in Litter-Robot are the strictly absorbent, non-clumping or loose-clumping litters, newspaper-based litters, and absorbent wood pellet litter.
Can Litter-Robot EVO be used on carpet?
Yes, Litter-Robot EVO can be used on any type of flooring.
