FAQ

  • Why was Litter-Robot 3 discontinued?

Litter-Robot 3 and Litter-Robot 3 Connect were discontinued to make way for newer, more advanced models with improved features, quieter operation, and enhanced technology. Phasing out older models allows us to focus on innovation and streamline production and support. You can explore Litter-Robot EVO for a similar experience or Litter-Robot 5 for the latest and most advanced option.

  • Is my WhiskerCare® Warranty still active even though Litter-Robot 3 was discontinued?

Yes, your WhiskerCare Warranty remains active for 1 year (or 3 years if you purchased the extended warranty) from the date your product was shipped.

  • How does Litter-Robot 3 Connect compare to Litter-Robot 4?

Core features of Litter-Robot models have always included a patented sifting system, odor management, multi-cat design, cat safety features, and easy-to-clean modular components.  The new Litter-Robot 4 advances these core features with the latest technology, including the optional OdorTrap® System to neutralize litter box odors and the SafeCat System with OmniSense® Detection for enhanced safety and real-time tracking of waste and litter levels. Litter-Robot 4 also features a QuietSift® cleaning cycle, an enlarged waste drawer, and a wider opening to maximize cat comfort. Learn more with our Litter-Robot 3 Connect vs Litter-Robot 4 comparison guide.

  • Can kittens use the Litter-Robot 3?

The Litter-Robot senses when your cat enters and exits the globe, which triggers the countdown timer and cleaning cycle. Kittens and small cats that weigh less than 5 pounds may not be heavy enough to trigger the cat sensor of the robot litter. Therefore, kittens and small cats that weigh less than 5 pounds can use the Litter-Robot, but not in automatic mode. Until they weigh enough, we recommend using your Litter-Robot in "semi-automatic" mode to keep your cat safe and relieve you from litter box scooping. For "semi-automatic" mode, leave the Litter-Robot switched off or unplugged. When you see your cat has used it, wait about 7 minutes for the waste to clump, then turn it on/plug it in. The Litter-Robot will automatically perform a clean cycle (which takes about 2 ½ minutes). Afterward, turn it off/unplug it again. Continue this supervised, semi-automatic mode until your kittens have gained sufficient weight to activate the cat sensor.

  • Can large cats use Litter-Robot 3?

Yes, cats of all sizes can use Litter-Robot 3 thanks to its larger globe size and lack of weight limit. With entryway dimensions of 16"H x 10.25"W and interior globe dimensions of 15"-17"H (depending on litter level) x 20"W x 20"D, almost any domestic cat can fit comfortably inside the globe. However, your cat must weigh at least 5 pounds to trigger the cat sensor.

  • Does the Litter-Robot require special litter?

The Litter-Robot does not require special litter or proprietary consumables like several other self-cleaning litter boxes on the market. In fact, the Litter-Robot works well with almost any clumping or scoopable litter. Litter beads and crystals that are small enough to pass through the screen will also work in the Litter-Robot. Alternative, plant-based litters may also work, but these tend to form looser clumps that can cause condensation in the waste drawer. The Litter-Robot is not compatible with litters that are strictly absorbent, non-clumping, loose-clumping, newspaper-based, or wood-based pellets. We suggest all-natural premium cat litter for Litter-Robot

  • Can I use any type of bag in the waste drawer?

Yes, you can use any bag that fits in the waste drawer. However, please note that waste level readings may be inaccurate when using a dark bag, especially when the drawer is empty. As clumps start to collect in the drawer, the readings will become more accurate. For the most precise waste drawer readings and a seamless experience, we highly recommend using Litter-Robot Waste Liners.

  • Will the robot connect to my WiFi network?

Our robots require a 2.4 GHz WiFi signal and IPv4 addressing (5 GHz band and IPv6 are not supported). Our robots are unable to connect to shared networks (apartment complexes, college dorms, etc.).

Litter-Robot 3 Connect is discontinued

The Litter-Robot 3 Connect was our most popular model, the one that truly put automatic litter boxes on the map.

While the Litter-Robot 3 Connect has now been discontinued, you can explore two great options depending on your needs:

  • Litter-Robot EVO – a modern take on the classic self-cleaning litter box experience, offering a similar experience at a similar price point.
  • Litter-Robot 5 – our newest and most advanced model, designed with cutting-edge technology, a refined look, and even better odor control.

Both models continue the legacy of innovation that started with the Litter-Robot 3 Connect—making life easier for pet parents and cleaner for cats.
